MISSISSIPPI

BroadMap and the Mississippi Office of the Governor have announced that they are working together to collect and verify the availability, speed and location of broadband—essentially high-speed Internet access—across the State. Mississippi is working with BroadMap, through the One Economy Corporation, and with support from the New America Foundation to create a map that will allow State residents, as well as prospective manufacturers and businesses, to more easily understand their broadband service options.

Mississippi recently announced that the federal government has awarded the State nearly $2 million in grants for broadband mapping and planning activities, channeled through the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). The work will be conducted on a semi-annual basis between 2009 and 2011, providing clear and accessibly formatted data to the public, government and the research community. http://stimulus.ms.gov/msgo/mssr.nsf/webpages/LN_broadband_Page_Broad?OpenDocument
