The Office of the Governor in American Samoa, with the American Samoa Department of Commerce, has partnered with BroadMap to create a broadband availability map and to measure current high-speed Internet access coverage for American Samoa.
We’re working to build a broadband coverage map in hopes of extending the benefits of greater broadband access for the people of American Samoa to help them improve their lives," said American Samoa Governor Togiola. “When more people of our island community as well as the businesses of the Territory can take advantage of improved access to information through faster connections to the Internet, they will then be able to seek more opportunities in education, health and commerce offered online. As we build the broadband service map for American Samoa, it is also our hope that we will see more and more jobs being created along the way.

The Colorado Governor’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) announced that it has chosen Critigen, a global technology consultancy for critical infrastructure, and BroadMap, a leading provider of turnkey GIS solutions, to create a comprehensive map of State-wide broadband availability, updating and building upon the baseline map that was released in December of last year.
Broadband is a game-changing technology for our communities, transforming how we deliver education, health care and government services,” said Colorado State CIO Michael Locatis. “Mapping broadband availability helps us ensure that no Coloradan is left out.

The State of Hawaii’s Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) has been awarded a federal grant to develop an interactive online map that can be used by consumers to identify the availability, speed and location of broadband services in the State of Hawaii. DCCA has teamed with the University of Hawaii Pacific Disaster Center (University of Hawaii) as well as with BroadMap, a geospatial solutions company, and the New America Foundation (New America), a non-profit public policy institute, to complete the mapping portion of the project. The partnership between the University of Hawaii, BroadMap and New America will ensure that Hawaii and its citizens receive the most benefit from the stimulus funding.
The mapping effort will provide an important resource for consumers in Hawaii, enabling them to identify and choose between the growing number of broadband services that are becoming available in the State,” said DCCA Director of Cable Television Division Clyde Sonobe. “We anticipate the broadband map will encourage increased competition between broadband service providers by giving them additional information regarding communities within the State that would benefit from the availability of new broadband services.

BroadMap and the Mississippi Office of the Governor have announced that they are working together to collect and verify the availability, speed and location of broadband—essentially high-speed Internet access—across the State. Mississippi is working with BroadMap, through the One Economy Corporation, and with support from the New America Foundation to create a map that will allow State residents, as well as prospective manufacturers and businesses, to more easily understand their broadband service options.
Mississippi recently announced that the federal government has awarded the State nearly $2 million in grants for broadband mapping and planning activities, channeled through the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). The work will be conducted on a semi-annual basis between 2009 and 2011, providing clear and accessibly formatted data to the public, government and the research community. http://stimulus.ms.gov/msgo/mssr.nsf/webpages/LN_broadband_Page_Broad?OpenDocument
Through the Oregon Public Utility Commission (OPUC), Oregon has partnered with One Economy Corporation, BroadMap, Sanborn and the New America Foundation to create a comprehensive State-wide broadband availability map and enable its planning efforts.
These Recovery Act dollars will help create a vital link to technology—and to information—for communities across the State,” said Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski. “I am pleased to be launching this effort to see that Oregonians, especially students, have access to the Internet and the educational benefits it provides.
We have known there is a digital divide in Oregon, but have not had the money or authority to address it,” Oregon Public Utility Commission Chairman Lee Beyer said. “With this federal grant, we will do the mapping to confirm which areas of the State lack high-speed Internet access and start down the road of assuring access by all Oregonians.

The South Dakota Bureau of Information and Telecommunications (BIT) has partnered with BroadMap, through the One Economy Corporation, to create a State-wide comprehensive broadband availability map measuring current Internet access coverage, unmet demand and provide a systematically and verifiable mapping solution for the State going forward.
Our cross-functional team, led by the Bureau of Information and Telecommunications, will create a map to help us better understand how to expand broadband Internet access throughout South Dakota," said BIT Commissioner Otto Doll. “By leveraging BroadMap’s digital mapping experience and the accuracy of their data solutions, our map will enable us to hopefully bring higher Internet connection speeds across South Dakota. Arming these communities with equal access to information and the key technologies that are driving today’s economic growth will better equip our workforce to compete in this digital society, retaining business and creating more local jobs.
