BroadMap Powers State of Oregon Broadband Mapping Website

BroadMap Powers State of Oregon Broadband Mapping Website

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 11, 2011—Lebanon, NH: BroadMap today announced the availability of the State of Oregon Broadband Mapping Project website, which is now live at http://www.oregon.gov/broadband/. With funding from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, BroadMap is working with the Oregon Public Utility Commission, other State agencies, broadband service providers and local community organizations to collect and map the State’s broadband service area data. The new broadband mapping website enables Oregon’s residents and businesses to locate broadband service providers, service options and to check their actual upload and download speeds.

The new website offers several specialized tools and functionalities to create an informative user experience. These include enhancements to map display and search capability, as well as the addition of a real-time speed test. Also included are interactive tutorials and feedback and comment tools, as well as new "bookmarking" and printing tools that make it easy to find and retain information.

“The launch of the Oregon broadband mapping website is another milestone in the process of accurately mapping the State’s broadband service areas,” said BroadMap President Michael Evers. “Users can see the Internet providers in their area, test their own connection speeds and use a comment tool to submit questions or concerns to the State. This feedback tool will also allow BroadMap to collect even more information to continue validating the data and improving the map.”.

“With the launch of the interactive broadband mapping website, Oregon residents and businesses can now search for and find broadband coverage by their address, municipality, county or even by placing an electronic pushpin anywhere on the map,” said Bryan Conway, Administrator, Telecommunications Division of the Oregon Public Utility Commission. “This website is a valuable tool that will inform policymakers and provide consumers with improved information on the broadband Internet services available to them.”
